What is the Schema Therapy Test?

The test is based on schema therapy and Kimmo Takanen's more than 20 years of experience working with emotional locks. His Finnish book Tunne lukkosi can already be found in more than 150,000 Finnish homes.

This self-assessment helps you identify which of the 18 emotional locks have the strongest influence on your thoughts, feelings, relationships and behavior.

Your results help put into words patterns that often developed as ways to survive, adapt and cope with difficult emotions.

The test is based on the schema therapy view that patterns learned early in life can continue to guide us in adulthood.

Emotional locks are not flaws.
They are learned ways of coping.

How does the Schema Therapy Test work?

The test presents statements about different experiences, feelings and ways of behaving.

For each statement, consider how well it describes you in your everyday life. Your first feeling or impression is usually enough.

What are the 18 emotional locks?

The test covers 18 different emotional locks, also known in schema therapy as early maladaptive schemas. Common examples include unrelenting standards, self-sacrifice, subjugation, abandonment, emotional deprivation, social isolation and approval seeking.

Your results show how your emotional locks affect you right now and where it would be most natural to begin working toward change.
